Originally Veteran's Day was to remember the end of World War 1 and was called Armistice Day by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Germany signed an armistice with the Allies that signaled the end of the war at 11 a.m. on 11 November 1918. It's primary intention was to reflect on the sacrifices by those that served in the military. That changed in 1954 when it became Veteran's Day. Parades and meetings are held and some retail establishments and restaurant chains offer free or discounted meals for people who can prove their veteran/military status. LOCAL PARADE: Crescent City's Veteran's parade will start at 10 am from Veterans Hall located at 810 H St and will run until noon. Lunch will be served after the parade. This was organized by the VFW. Locally, Denny's restaurant is offering vets and active military a Free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon on Nov. 11. Little Caesars – Veterans and active military personnel receive a free $5 Hot-N-Ready lunch combo, which includes a small deep dish pizza and a 20-ounce drink from 11 am to 2 pm.
