BY DONNA WESTFALL The old Mercantile Building located on Highway 101 North is gone. Burned to the ground by a vast array of firemen; and the public taking pictures of them from across the street. Huge plumes of thick, black smoke were visible throughout the area. This follows in the wake of a single residence on 10th street burned down just weeks before. There is a definite change in the thinking around here. If there are substandard homes, they're being dealt with. If they are condemned, they will be eradicated. It's nice to know that our area is finally being cleaned-up on a regular basis. It does bring up questions about who finishes the cleanup? What happens to the owner's property? How much are they responsible for?
