It was a picturesquely sunny day when Del Norte High School held its 132nd annual graduation commencement for the Class of 2025. Families and friends filled the home side of Mike Whalen Field on Friday and then some to see their graduates. After the graduates’ procession, Del Norte High Principal Alison Eckart started off the commencement by acknowledging the Tolowa land the field stood on. Eckart then recognized the students’ many accomplishments and what their cords, sashes, and medals signified. For example, 19 students received medals for the Seal of Bi-Literacy, and over 50 earned the Golden State Merit. Senior Class President Charleston Tygart and Vice President Andrew Young presented their class’s Senior Gift of $500 to the incoming freshman class. But they hope their initial gift idea of the “Wall of Warriors,” a mural featuring the hand prints of every senior, becomes a reality one day. After receiving their diplomas, the more than 190 graduates shifted their tassels from right to left, threw their caps into the air and shot off confetti and streamers. Congratulations to Del Norte High School’s Class of 2025!
