Ray’s Food Store, 101 Highway at Fred Haight Drive, Smith River is now a fond memory to those who remember. The Smith River Fire Department, Station No.1 now occupies the building. The Smith River Fire District hosted a soft opening, Saturday afternoon June 7, to proudly show off its new home. The opportunity to acquire the building was unique and a huge discount off market value, years ago but there was much to do to bring the building to current standards.The Smith River District will serve some 2800 businesses and residents in Hiouchi and 1500 residents in Smith River.Improvements include training rooms, public lobby, administrative offices, captain’s office, kitchen, sleeping quartets, hazmat area and exercise room.
