The proposal ofFlag Day goesback to 1861in support for the Unionside in the Civil War. President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential Proclamation designating June 14 as Flag Day. In 1949 National Flag Day was officially established by an Act of Congress. Courtesy photo June 14 also was No Kings Day in Crescent City and hundreds of other locations across the country.An estimated 300-325 individuals from Del Norte, Curry and Humboldt counties crowded along the narrow sidewalk in front of the Fairgrounds and CVS parking lots along Highway 101 North. The event was without incident. The passion, anger, fury of those attending the event was palpable: signs expressing odious hatred for the President were omnipresent. We do not accept usurption of California’s rights. We believe in due process and oppose Trump’s abuse of the Constitution.” The group’s focus is and remains to counter authoritarian policies of the (Trump) Administrstation.Wylie spoke on behalf of group called Del Norte Indivisible, part of a network of 2,000 local groups. In the Del Norte Indivisible literature, Wylie warned of “…facing the brunt of right wing, ideological attacks.Though espousing “nonviolent civil resistance only and always,” The tone of intolerance and disdain for Trump was profound and distinguishable.The Triplicate journeyed along the heavily packed sidewalk and encountered no shortage of the “F” word and other associated vulgarity, all protected under the 1st Amendment to Free Speech but nontheless, disturbing. The evidence of hostility was blunt.The Triplicate took pictures, sometimes from the curb. An unidentified male sarcastically warned the reporter of traffic into the street and then expressed hope a vehicle might hit the staffer. Disturbing!During an interview with a couple, a male a Healthcare worker and the female claimed to be a doctor. When queried further about her medical expertise, she admitted she was a psychologist. Both expressed the opinion of 100% support for Due Process before any deportation, even for dangerous felons such as murderers, rapists, DUI persons where a death has occurred, child molesters, drug and human traffickers and other serious felony criminals. Fairly typical of those attending, this couple echoed its anger at the Trump Administration.Though the event had no violence, and a large group of recalcitrants, there was no police or law enforcement at the June 14th rally.Del Norte Invisible was formed two months ago assigned to address perceived Trump Administration abuse auuthority.
