The Crescent Fire Protection District held elections for a new chairman and vice chairman, at its recent meeting at the Washington St. Fire Station.The new chairman is Jim Erler and the new vice chair is newly- appointed commissioner Jon Maxwell. The service term will be for two years. In other business, during Public Comments, Commissioner Maxwell questioned whether he was compelled to comment in retort, asking Fire Chief Kevin Carey for advise. “Can’t we just say nothing?” Maxwell stated. Another public speaker followed up and wondered if the newly-appointed Maxwell was interested on embracing Public Comments at all. Fire Chief Carey identified the need to replace Water Tender 5150 due to increasing maintenance costs. The water tender holds 3,000 gallon water capac financing ity. Delivery for the water tender is anticipated within three-five months. The 10 year plan will result in an annual payment of about $38,700.The vote was 4-1, with new CFPD Chairman Erler dissenting, calling the financing plan as excessive. Finally, Commissions heard Chief Carey’s report on fire responses for the month in April. The Chief reported there were 16 structure fires on a total of 47 incidents reported fires.
