Glenn Arthur Garvin, born April 23, 1933, on the South Bank of the Chetco River in Brookings, Oregon, he passed away April 17, 2025 at the age of 92.Glenn spent his early years in Brookings on the family farm on the banks of the Chetco River, attending school there through his freshman year. In his teens, the Garvin family moved just south across the Oregon-California border to Smith River, where they purchased another dairy farm. Glenn completed his high school education in Crescent City, California.In 1954, Glenn was drafted into the United States Army, where he served honorably as a Specialist Class 5 until 1956. Upon returning home, he resumed work on the family’s dairy farm—eventually taking the reins and running it with quiet diligence and pride. His stewardship of the farm continued until its sale in 2016, though Glenn remained on the property until his passing. Even after the farm changed hands, he stayed busy. Offering help to neighbors and friends without hesitation or expectation.Glenn was a true farmer. Whether it was offering vegetables and fruit from his garden or lending a helping hand to someone in need, his generosity and kindness were constant in the lives of those around him. He valued simple things done well and always had a joke or story ready that left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. He hauled cattle until he turned 90. He enjoyed family and friend gatherings. The Smith River farming community was a big part of his life.He is survived by his younger brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Rainie Garvin of Smith River, California, and his sister-in-law Pat Garvin of Milwaukie, Oregon. Glenn also leaves behind a large and loving extended family: 9 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 20 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.Glenn’s life was one of quiet strength, deep roots and a story to tell. He will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lake Earl Grange Hall in Fort Dick, CA on Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 1-4 pm.
