It is not often State or Federal representatives deign to appear north of the Sonoma County line, unless it calls for a trip to Humboldt County, the second most populous county in District two. Let’s face it, Del Norte, Mendicino and Trinity counties, the remaining three in the district, simply cannot compete with Sonoma County (population near 200,000) and Humboldt County (population also near 200,000) in terms of political relevance. This was made crystal clear during recent events when Assemblyman Chris Rogers, our recently elected state representative, spent a couple of hours with local residents at the Paragon Coffee Shop Wednesday April 16th.So, who is Assemblyman Chris Rogers? His bio has him as a lifetime resident of Santa Rosa, California, population 175,000. Thirty-seven years old, married, a Democrat, and had he run for office in Del Norte County alone, he would not be the County’s State assembly member. His political positions have him aligned with the State’s progressive/liberal faction which has dominated California politics for several decades.It was clear once one sifted through Rogers’ numerous word salads, his positions on issues which are important to Del Norters, there wasn’t much common ground. From support for single payer health care to opposition of the deportation of criminal illegal aliens, Rogers consistently found himself out of step with most at the Paragon Coffee shop. While approval of men in women’s sports, a mileage tax on California drivers, and opposition and obstruction to cutting of waste and fraud at the national level may win approval in Humboldt and Santa Rosa, it is not a policy stance from an elected representative which is a clear winner in Del Norte County.Rogers continues with environmental suicide on issues of climate change, offshore wind power, unreliable solar, opposition to responsible extraction of natural resources (timber and minerals), and elimination of water storage from local rivers in the name of restoration. Rogers supports the ineffective “house first” model for addressing homelessness and has no answer for the cost and expense of affordable housing, let alone for low or poverty level housing. His “solutions” seem to inevitably seek more legislation, or massive government subsidies in a State mired in budget busting social programs.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');Unfortunately, Rogers positions on a wide range of issues are not those of importance to most who live in Del Norte County. HIS positions on political issues may find favor in San Francisco or Sacramento even Santa Rosa, or Humboldt but are not those of actual rural populations in the State. The November elections of 2024 and the subsequent activity of the current Administration have found favor amongst much of the rural populations in the United States and in California. Del Norte County is no different.If Assemblyman Rogers cannot address his clear biases when representing Del Norte County, it will be a long and painful two years with little to show for his time in office. Legislation on speed limits and cock fighting will hardly alleviate issues directly affecting county residents negatively. Homelessness, crime, high taxation, state induced inflation, ruinous regulation, growing dependance on social services, spiking poverty levels, and exceptionally poor results from local public education are just a few problems which need effective remedies.Word salads instead of solutions, focus on inane, progressive, crazy and a government intent on destroying the State of California are things recognizable to a growing portion of the entire country, yet a few places clearly have not gotten the message. Assemblyman “word salad” Chris Rogers is one who hasn’t recognized the change in the United States and continues to associate with what hasn’t worked in California since the Democrats took control. Word salads are no longer acceptable, Mr. Rogers, nor is the current direction you wish to take Del Norte County and District Two. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
