The Tolowa Dee-ni Nation invites the community to support Missing and Murdered Indigenous People during the 3rd annual MMIP Awareness Walk scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds in Crescent City. Each year, thousands of Indigenous individuals go missing or fall victim to murder.Staff with the Nation's Community and Family Wellness Victim Services Division will offer sign-making and face-painting stations at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds starting at 10 a.m., followed by guest speakers and testimonies from families of loved ones who were murdered or are still missing.Participants in the walk, scheduled at noon, will walk several blocks on L and M streets, starting at and returning to the fairgrounds. In previous years, the walkers were greeted by people honking their car horns or waving in support. This event is open to the entire community. The goal of the event is to bring more awareness to those who have gone missing in Smith River, the Nation's service area spanning Del Norte and Curry counties, and nationwide.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write(''); For more information about the walk and MMIP, contact Adrian Lopez at 707-487-9255 ext, 1129, or email adrian.lopez@tolowa.gov.
