Nancy Lee Baillie (O’Neil) passed away December 11, 2024, in Oroville, CA.She was born February 11, 1936, in Joplin, Missouri. Her mother Evalyn died when Nancy was very young, and she had fond memories of being cared for by her beloved Grandpa and Grandma Tamblyn. Her grandfather’s birthday was the 10th of February, the day before hers. He was a prominent businessman in Joplin. She acquired her sweet tooth by being given candy and pastries by him every day. Her father Charles left for a while to try to make it in Hollywood and was a chauffeur to stars like Betty Grable. When her father returned to Missouri he remarried. She spent her remaining childhood taking care of her half-sister Patti and, after her grandparents passed, the family moved from Missouri to the Southern California coast where she loved spending her days at the beach or going to the movies as often as she could. She worked as a theatre ticket girl and was delighted to meet Johnny Weissmuller when he was there to watch one of his own Tarzan movies. She was working at a restaurant when she met Alvin Baillie, a marine, at a bus stop in San Diego and they married soon after.Nancy became a homemaker and mother. They lived in North Carolina and Colorado before settling in Fremont, CA where their family of three girls Kathie, Karen and Sharon grew up. They lost their eldest daughter Kathie and her unborn son to a car accident in the early 1970’s.Alvin and Nancy retired to Crescent City, CA in the 1990’s where they built their dream home and just when it was finished, Alvin passed away. Her grandson Tim lived with her after her husband died to help her through those tough early years alone. Nancy spent her remaining years there, up the street from her youngest daughter Sharon and her family. Her granddaughter Jenette, born on February 10th like Nancy’s beloved grandfather Tamblyn, shared many happy birthdays with her and always had a special bond, as did her other grandchildren Tim, Brett, Jessica and Micheal. Her daughter Sharon passed away in 2015 and daughter Karen also proceeded her in death in 2024. In her last years she was lovingly cared for by her daughter Karen and her husband Steven and Sharon’s husband Greg, their daughter Jenette and her friend and neighbor Pat. Nancy loved God, her family, her dear dogs, movies, TV, going to church and, of course, pies, cookies and most anything sweet.She is survived by her grandchildren Tim MacIntosh (Bee), Brett MacIntosh (Nicole), Jessica Rooney (Bryan), Micheal Plante (Brianne), Jenette Farrow and great-grandchildren Michael Rooney (Julia), Tyler MacIntosh, Kylie MacIntosh, Joselyn Plante, step-grandchildren Isaac, Madison and Noah and sons-in-law Greg Farrow and Steven Randall.Nancy was a wonderful, beautiful and generous woman and will be greatly missed.Graveside services will be held at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm.Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.Please sign the family’s online guest book at wiersmortuary.com To plant a tree in memory of Nancy Baillie as a living tribute, please visit Tribute Store. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
