The California Highway Patrol is Investigating a Vehicle vs Pedestrian Fatality. On 12/04/2024, at approximately 1800 hours, a 2019 Nissan Rogue was traveling northbound on Northcrest Drive, south of East Madison Avenue in Del Norte County.A male subject was walking within a marked crosswalk pulling-pushing a personal metal shopping cart across Northcrest Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan Rogue collided with the male subject. After the crash, the pedestrian was thrown into the #1 southbound lane of Northcrest Drive and the driver, later identified as Alexandra Diehl, fled the scene of the crash in the Nissan Rogue.Moments later, a Toyota 4-Runner, also traveling northbound, struck the personal metal shopping cart. A third vehicle, a white Ilia was traveling southbound on Northcrest Drive, in the #1 lane, just south of East Madison Avenue. As the driver got closer, she recognized a person laying in the roadway so she swerved but was unable to avoid the person.After the crash, the driver remained at the scene until CHP arrival. The pedestrian was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after 2100 hours. A following investigation was conducted which resulted in positively identifying the driver of the Nissan Rogue as Alexandra Danielle Diehl. Diehl was taken into custody for 20001(a) V.C. and 192 (c) P.C.Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to contact the Crescent City CHP office at (707) 218-2000.Crescent City Fire Department and the Del Norte County Sheriffs Department assisted with traffic control on scene. The California Highway Patrol is investigating this crash.
