Crescent City pays homage to its armed forces Veterans Monday. Veterans Day, formally called Armistice Day, is celebrated November 11, commemorating the official end of the Great World War (World War I) on the 11th hour of the 11th month, 1918. Armistice Day’s name was officially changed to Veterans Day in 1945.The Veterans Day Parade will commence at 10AM in front of the Veterans Memorial Building, 8th and H Streets and will head south on H to 3rd Street, turn east to K, south on K and terminate at the Point of Honor Monument on Front St. Group participation is encouraged.Lunch will be served at the Veterans Memorial Building at 11:30. Vets and children under five eat free. Armed Forces Day, the newest day of recognition, was established to recognize and honor those who are currently serving in the active and reserve components of the armed forces, Memorial Day, which is the oldest American recognition of service and was established to honor the sacrifice made by those who died in the service of the United States and Veterans Day. Additionally, VFW Post 1381 recognizes and awards an annual Teacher of the Year honor, who has demonstrated excellence in education, scholarships in the form of Patriot’s Pen essay contests for 6th-8th graders and Voice of Democracy speech contest for high school students. American Legion Post 548 and the Yurok Veterans Organization in Klamath will also participate in this year’s Parade.If your group wishes to participate in the iconic Parade, please contact Lt.
