Gateway Project concept drafts Courtesy photos The Crescent City Council discussed ideas of the Highway 101 S Curve/ Front Street and Gateway Beautification Project.The City applied for and was awarded a nearly $3 million grant for the Cultural Gateway project. Stover Engineering and SeaReach Signage are currently working on the project. The primary focus will be on the intersection of Front Steet and 101. The objective is to establish a sense of arrival and guide visitors down Front Street to Beachfront Park. Time is of the essence. The Clean California Grant stipulates all funds must be expended by June 30, 2026. Cal Trans and Coastal Development permits must be completed by February 2025. Councilors discussed three draft options. City Manager Eric Wier reminded the present four lane road will be reduced to two lanes. Option three involving an archway seemed to gather the most appeal.There was consensus to not block any view of Point of Honor, south-west corner of Front and 101.The discussion also involved a possible name change atop the proposed arch.
