Courtesy photo Many jobs in Del Norte go unfilled and employees face additional pressure to cover larger caseloads. Retention is challenging, according to Union representative Williams.Del Norte has been inundated with complaints of poor compensation which has led to some employees leaving Del Norte for higher paying jobs in larger communities. The Del Norte Sheriff’s Department has also been chronically plagued by difficulty in hiring and retaining deputies. Within a short period of hire, many deputies transfer to other better paying law enforcement agencies around the Golden State.When asked what solutions can be employed by the Board to pay more competitive wages, Williams emphasized, “Supervisors must sit down with us and bargain in good faith.
