The Del Norte Sheriff’s Department reported a death on 199 south, in Gasquet, Thursday.On August 22 at 9:30am the Del Norte Sheriff Office received a report of a single vehicle accident involving a motorcycle immediately south of Gasquet. The California Highway Patrol, Gasquet Fire, Del Norte Ambulance and the DNSO expediently responded.Witnesses in the area advised the motorcyclist was operating the motorcyclist without a helmet, was in possession of a handgun and had possibly shot himself while traveling on 199.Upon arrival, first responders observed the motorcyclist was located down an embankment about 50 feet from the roadway. Among multiple injuries, it appeared he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
