Redwood National and State Park rangers and California Department of Fish and Wildlife wardens are asking for the public’s help in an investigation of elk poaching. Officials were notified last week of four Elk shot near Williams Ridge along Bald Hills Road in Humboldt County.An investigation determined that the quartet of Elk and no meat had been taken. The area where the elk were slain is located within the Redwood National Park, where hunting is prohibited by Federal and State law. Officers determined lead shot was used to shoot the Elk.The Yurok Tribe in partnership with Redwood National and State Parks, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and California Department of Parks and Recreation, reintroduced California condors to the region two years ago.
