David Weldon, a native son of Yreka, California lost his life due to a tragic boating accident off the south end of South Beach in Crescent City on February 8th. Dave was 90 years old. Born November 24, 1933, to George and Dorie Weldon, also long-time residents of Yreka, he attended Yreka High School and upon graduation he entered the Navy during the Korean War and served four years. After the Navy he enrolled into Shasta College in Redding where he continued playing the game of football which he was well known for being a formidable quarterback. He met and married the mother of his three children, JoAnn Turner who preceded him in death in July 2001.He moved to Crescent City back in the late 1990s and continued his love of fishing and crabbing. It was there he met and established a twenty-plus year relationship with Mary Lee Sevier until her death in September 2018. Dave is survived by his children: Michael and Dawn Weldon of Chico, CA; Jon Weldon of Yreka, CA; Joseph and Heather Weldon of Montague, CA; and his companion Ann Sharp of Crescent City. He also had six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Yreka on February 29th at 11:00am. Reception to follow at the home of Joe & Heather Weldon 1720 Little Shasta Ball Mountain Rd. Montague. A celebration of life will take place in Crescent City at the Elks Lodge, date to be announced.
