I have only returned to Crescent City as a citizen a little over a year ago, but in that time, I have had occasion to address the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors regarding issues with the Grand Jury report, the County Budget, and the County Financial Statements.Even though I do not live in Valerie’s district, she was the only supervisor to reach out to me and to provide assistance and ask for my assistance with reviewing budgets and financial statements. She immediately contacted me to answer my Grand Jury questions in a very clear and knowledgeable manner. When we discovered issues with both the Budget and the Financial Statements, Valerie jumped right on the problems with questions to both the Controller/Auditor and the County Administrator. She continues to press them for meaningful answers and cooperation. If I have questions, she makes sure they respond to me promptly.Aside from my personal interactions with Valerie on the above issues I have watched her rally around other public concerns and not only provide personal assistance, such as helping an elderly resident clear his property of overgrown vegetation that he could no longer manage on his own. She rounded up a group of volunteers to help her with this task.
