On Friday, October 20, the Humboldt - Del Norte Film Commission held a ribbon cutting to celebrate their new office space, at 235 F Street in Old Town Eureka, and a soft opening of their Museum of Cinema.For over 100 years, filmmaking has made an impact on our Redwood Coast and the opening of the Museum is meant to commemorate that. From the 1916 Lass of the Lumberlands that featured Helen Holmes, who also performed her own stunts and more for the serial, to Bird Box, featuring Sandra Bullock blind folded on the Smith River, Humboldt and Del Norte has been the backdrop of many mediums. Regular museum hours open to the general public are planned for the start of the new year.The museum also showcases both the newly launched Forest Moon Festival and the Map of the Movies. With the success of the inaugural Forest Moon Festival event, the film commission also released updates for the 2024 festivities including a new logo and teased at more new things to come that will make this next year better than the last.To help celebrate, a local costumer from the Mando Mercs was in attendance. The Forest Moon Festival will continue to span across the two counties.
