California State Parks North Coast Redwoods District will begin to carry out prescribed burns in several parks beginning in September and likely going through November.Locations for the prescribed burns will include Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The first burn will take place at Sinkyone Wilderness State Park as early as next week, depending on weather and fire resource availability.Prescribed burns are designed to reduce the encroachment of conifer trees and shrubs into prairies and reduce the risk of high severity wildfires in neighboring forests. All burning will be conducted in coordination with the North Coast Air Quality Management District. Smoke may be present during prescribed burns and for several days thereafter.
