Retired Del Norte High teacher Joanie Lindenmeyer published her first book entitled Nun Better… a love story celebrating courage to defy religious rules against same-sex relationships.Lindenmeyer hosted a book signing event last Saturday at the Del Norte library on the Price Mall.The career long-term teacher taught physical education and health and coached at Del Norte High School for 25 years. Contributed photo Joanie Lindenmeyer was raised in San Diego, a former Catholic nun, a Catholic Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Los Angeles.She met Sister Carol in 1982 and they married in August of 2020.Since the two sisters were forbidden to marry due to Catholic doctrine which violated their chastity vows, the couple was wed in an Episcopal ceremony.After 31 years of marriage, Carol passed away in January 2022.Joanie shares her stories of trial, tribulation and triumph in Nun Better. Joanie’s message is a spiritual one, offering hope and inspiration to those who are gay.
