Be On The Lookout, folks. 300 bike riders and 50 crew from Bicycle Rides Northwest (BRNW) will be coming to Crescent City, starting Tuesday, July 11 and departing Thursday morning.Executive Director Jim Moore said, “ BRNW is conducting bike tours across the northwest for 35 years and this is our first visit to Crescent City. We are very excited about visting Del Norte county.” The challenge has and remains keeping riders safe as the tour heads east up 199.The CHP will close one lane eastbound on 199, Thursday morning 8:00-8:30 as bike riders gather at Parkway Dr. and 199 just north of the 101. Thursday riders will camp for the evening at Lake Selmac.Executive Director Moore respectfully asks drivers to be patient and not pass riders except when they pull over or in the multiple passing lane sections. BRNW will provide a shuttle for riders who chose not to ride bikes up the 199. The shuttle will deliver bikes and riders through the Collier tunnel.The riders are expected to be on 199 from about 8am-12Noon.While visiting Crescent City, riders will stay Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Beachfront Park. Wednesday, riders may take an optional out and back route that will follow Howland Hill Rd., then Southfork Rd. to Stephen Bridge before turning around. Riders are expected to be off the road by 2PM.Bicycle Rides Northwest reaped huge praise and appreciation to the Crescent City/ Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce, the city and the CCPD, the county and the DNSD, Del Norte Transportation Commission and the Highway Patrol and awaits meeting as many local folks as possible during this tour.
