A first-grade class at Redwood Elementary has published a book on kindness. The book is entitled Kindness makes the World Go ‘Round. Their teacher, Debbie Long loves kindness and encourages her class and other classes at Redwood to be kind to everyone.“Kindness has been the focus of our whole year. Kindness is contagious.”With the assistance of Studentreasures Publishing, each first grader wrote a paragraph about what they do to be kind and drew a picture to go with it. Annually, Antonetti’s class publishes a book entitled, “The Best Part of Me.” Mrs. Long and Mrs. Antonetti are buddy classes.Last week, The Triplicate visited Redwood and observed first graders reading the kindness book to the fourth graders.Studentreasures helps students learn writing and editing skills, teaching strategies, publishing tips and offers the opportunity for each student to become a published author. Editing skills included capitalization of the first letter of every sentence, the sentences written had to be properly punctuated, all spelling was correct and sentences needed to make sense.The kindness book has been shared with all K-8 classes at Redwood. Long has been hosting publishing parties, where students read their page and share snacks and stories with their partner. The book is a permanent fixture in the Redwood library.
