Gerald Michael Owen passed away on Wednesday November 30, 2022 with family by his side, he was 68 years old. Gerald was born in Oakland, CA and raised in Klamath, CA from a young age. He moved to Crescent City in his teens where he remained for the rest of his life. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dixie Nix, his father, Albert Owen, his brother, Tony Frank, his loving wife, Ardetta Owen, and other close relatives. Gerald is survived in death by numerous family members. He was proud of his Yurok heritage which extended to the Nix, Frank, and Owen family lines. Gerald, Bubba, Goober, Geronimo, Grandpa, Umpire, and Ref were all names for a man that loved Crescent City. Gerald volunteered as an umpire and referee for Del Norte Youth sports for over 40 years and was devoted to helping mentor the youth of Del Norte County. He was a dedicated Del Norte Unified School District employee where he worked at multiple schools as a custodian for 40 years. Gerald shaped many Del Norte Youths’ lives through his presence at schools and through his role as an umpire and referee. He was an avid Raider’s fan and would not be caught without his favorite hat. Gerald will be missed by many people.
