For those who thought you’d never see this day, I have encouraging news. It has begun!The IT is the abatement of the former Seaside Medical office building at 200 A St, in Crescent City. The tragic saga of yet another failed effort to enhance the City is palpable. This latest venture undertaken by principals Jason Roe and wife Julia Yim dates back to February of 2019 when the couple purchased the one and a half acre site for a modest mid-$300,000 price, including the ramshackle building. The plan was to develop 36 high-end Planned Urban Development (PUD) condominiums. The idea went sour in short time and another eyesore was allowed to languish in the City’s most iconic area.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write(''); Fast forward to present day. The Court-appointed receiver Richardson Griswold, attorney and team were on site last week with all required paperwork, bond requirements and mitigation plan to remove the Health Code-violated building. On site were representatives from the City, the County environmental engineer and interested third party contractors who may become associated with helping solve this Municipal nightmare. EYE ON DEL NORTE recognizes and welcomes the arrival of the receiver. The Del Norte Superior Court action and City support to mitigate this nuisance is long overdue. The dilapidated building situated on arguably one of the most magnificent locations on the west coast of North America has been a blemish for decades. Soon this physical eyesore will be gone.EYE ON DEL NORTE commends the City Manager, the Crescent City Police Department, Del Norte County Environmental Health, the receiver, the Court and most of all the community for finally, alas, emphatically exclaiming unequivocally, enough is enough. Clean this mess up! For those who’ve thought this day would never come, smile broadly. The abatement has begun. In the next few weeks, the vile remnants of what was once Seaside Clinic will be a faded memory and a day to celebrate. The future of what will situate on this breathtaking location has yet to be determined. Conjecture is premature. For the time being, let’s clear the air and the blight which stains Crescent City and just enjoy the pristine solitude of the proud Pacific and breath a sigh of appreciation and expression of gratitude for those most responsible for inserting this postage stamp parcel of splendor on Crescent City’s landscape. THANK YOU for taking a Bite out of blight.EYE ON DEL NORTERoger Gitlin is the retired District 1 supervisor in Del Norte County. He and his wife reside in Crescent City. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
