I am writing to clarify and set the record straight. It seems that Mr. Henricks didn’t do his homework in his opinion piece in the Triplicate on October 7th, Local Experience Matters on School Board. To not share all of the facts can mislead voters.As stated in his “opinion piece” regarding the school board candidates…yes one did move from Los Angeles, Abbie Crist and one from Paradise, Michael Greer, but this doesn’t make them “not local.”Abbie Crist, running for School Board District 2, grew up in Del Norte County, attending Del Norte Schools from kindergarten through high school, which prepared her for a college education at UC Davis and then Loyola Law School. Her parents were both educators at Del Norte High. Her mother, Faith Crist, served on the Del Norte County School Board.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');Her family has lived in Del Norte for over 60 years. I fail to understand why Abbie Crist isn’t considered local. When Crist came home with her husband in 2019, she not only began to serve as a CASA but also on the board of Nick and Lisa Rail’s Partnership for the Performing Arts. She is hardly a stranger to Del Norte, or the challenges faced by our students or the educational problems that face our community. Her deep ties to the Del Norte School District will be well served by her years of experience as an attorney. Her work required fully investigating issues including talking to all involved parties, distilling the matter down to essential facts, then engaging in negotiations resulting in consensus.These skills will be an asset to our school district and are sorely needed. She brings her own unique skill set to the school board. Abbie Crist is the best choice to vote for School Board District 2 on November 8th.Michael Greer, running for School Board District 5, has a lifetime of experience that uniquely qualifies him to serve on the School Board. He was a Special Eduction educator for 20 years in Sutter County; President of the Sutter County Teachers Association and Chair of the California Teachers Association for Feather River Service Center that served a 5-county area. Having served 14 years on the Paradise Unified School District School Board, and President at the time of the devastating Paradise fire, he was instrumental in the process to rebuild the school district. He has lobbied in Washington DC for Rural Schools funding.These funds replaced some of the taxes lost when logging stopped. He has also lobbied in Sacramento to increase school funding for programs and infrastructure, especially for small school districts. Upon moving to Del Norte County, Greer signed up as a substitute teacher, filling a needed long term sub position at Pine Grove and the following year at Joe Hamilton.This year Greer continues to sub at different schools that serve district 5 including Joe Hamilton, Crescent Elk and Del Norte High, and recently Margaret Keating. Michael’s teaching, school board and coaching knowledge, both past and present, along with his experience with teachers, administrators and students makes Michael Greer the best choice to vote for School Board District 5 on November 8th. Both candidates will fairly represent students, parents, staff and the community on the School Board.Karen SandersChair of the Del Norte County Republican CentralCommitteechair@delnorterepublicans.org googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
