Jaime Yarbrough – KJ6JKL (General class) – July 1, 2023 Last weekend the club participated in the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) Field Day at Beach Front Park in Crescent City. The club joined 40,000+ other Ham radio operators in North America to simulate an emergency, for 24 hours, running on emergency power (generator) and making contacts with anyone and everyone they can. The ARRL holds the competition to build motivation and enthusiasm. This weekend several members of the club will be up on a mountain behind Gasquet off French Hill Road called Camp 6 to swap out a couple of antennas that have served for @40 years. The site is a hub for several ‘repeaters’ which relay radio signals from Del Norte County to the inner valley. There are a couple of phone companies, the CHP, Sheriff’s office, Forest Service, Cal Fire, Search and Rescue and a couple other commercial companies that utilize several of the towers. This 4th of July the Club will once again assist Judge Bob Cochran organize the floats in the traditional parade. Each float has a marking on the street to which they are assigned. The radio club directs the floats to their position and gives them their number for judging at the corner of 3rd and H street. Due to the proximity of the 4th of July to the clubs usual meeting date of the first Monday of the month there will be no club meeting. Club meetings are held at the Hambro business office and kick of at 6 PM. For further information about the club, becoming a member or becoming a HAM radio operator see our website: W6HY.ORG
