Thank you so muchDear David RupkalvisDavid, I find it very hard to find words to express my deep appreciation for your comments in your August 19 My Turn column.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');As you well know, positive feedback is a rare treat in the newspaper business. We do our jobs as editors and reporters humbly, but proudly, knowing that perhaps the accumulation of our work will make a difference to some of our readers.I am humbled beyond words that a number of Triplicate readers noticed my absence, and were concerned enough to find out why I left. And, just as you said, my departure had nothing to do with the strong but sincere criticism I received from time to time, or to any pressure from you or other managers at Country Media Inc. to soften my editorials.Rather, I had to leave immediately to take care of family matters back "home" in Riverside County. This meant leaving my position as editor of the Triplicate because I knew the problem would take a month or two to resolve.I am happy to report that we have sold our home in Riverside County, and have purchased a home here in Crescent City. For the first time in nearly two years my wife Phyllis, her mother Nancy, a small assortment of cats and a dog, and I will all share the same home. I missed my wife deeply during that time and would have done anything to bring our lives back together again. I just didn't have room in the RV where I have been living for the past two years.The future? I had always hoped that there would be room for me back at the Triplicate when I returned. I love this community and want to devote my remaining productive years to helping it overcome the difficulties it is experiencing. Your comments last week opened a new place in my heart that can only be filled by my future association with the Triplicate, if not as editor, then in some other capacity where I can continue to meet and write about the wonderful people of Crescent City and Del Norte County.I promised Phyllis that she, like me, would find this community to be a paradise. And now, this is very likely to happen in the next few weeks. I am so eager to have the many people I have already met here back into my life again, and to meet my beautiful wife Phyllis and her mother Nancy.Until then, there are truckloads of furniture and household goods to move some 900 miles north. And I'm looking forward to it.Dan SchmidtCrescent City googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
