There’s nothing quite like the excitement of driving the 101 through our small two-lane town and seeing brightly colored chunks of machinery lined up in an otherwise empty parking lot the days leading up to the Del Norte County Fair. Each day, more and more transformer-esque trucks and trailers fold outwards and upwards into the neon lights that make up one of the most entertaining community events of the year. It’s truly a whimsical time filled with carnival rides alongside our besties, overpriced games played for oversized stuffies, and sweet deep fried nostalgia. In a small rural county such as Del Norte, where choices for family entertainment are few and far between, the county fair brings with it not only the winning accouterments we all know and love but a chance for locals to showcase their many talents and passions. For every adult kickin back having a drink in the beer garden, there’s a youngster taking better care of their livestock than some adults. This is the real spirit of the county fair.
