As a proud non believer all of my 69-plus years, I find it disturbing that Christianity in our country seems to be morphing into the more radical and stringent “Christian Nationalism.” A movement favored by fringe politicians with beliefs such as “Abortion rights activists are too fat and ugly to impregnate anyway”, Matt Gaetz. “The church is supposed to direct the government”, Lauren Boebert. “If it’s legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down”, Todd Akin. There are many more examples of bizarre comments by supposed Christians but the point is made. The Christian card was played in the latest issue of the Triplicate in two separate columns and one letter. A Curry County Commissioner made sure we were aware of his walk with his Lord and Savior regarding the library fiasco. So? Does that make him more moral and ethical than others? A letter writer professed a Christian education is better for children. Would that include taking the Bible literally and eschewing science and facts the Christians sometimes prefer. Mark Burton’s column on why he thinks abortion should left to the states, I guess not accounting for some states criminalizing women who want to travel to another state for an abortion, admitted the issue is ultimately a religious argument. I believe those of us who aren’t religious at all have a say also. Secularism along with beliefs in science and facts will hopefully keep gaining strength and influence.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write(''); Rick McNamerSmith River googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
