The Curry County Sheriff’s Office makes 2 arrests near Highway 101

Monday August 8, 2022, at about 8:08pm, while on U.S. Highway 101 north of Benham Lane in Harbor, Curry County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenney Moore attempted to stop a vehicle driven by forty-year-old Robert Sutherland, who had violated a court ordered restraining order and also had a warrant for his arrest out of Del Norte California.Sutherland failed to yield to an emergency vehicle and attempted to elude the Deputy. Sutherland and his passenger, forty-year-old Andre Gonzalez hit a curb on West Benham Lane near the 101 Bar and Grill and both ran from the vehicle. Deputy David Vershall and Deputy Tim King with K-9 Nero arrived and determined the vehicle Sutherland was driving was stolen out of Del Norte, Ca. The license plates were off another vehicle and had been reported stolen as well.Deputy Moore quickly caught up to the passenger, Gonzalez, and detained him, but Sutherland was able to get away. A Brookings Police Officer and an Oregon State Trooper responded, and a perimeter was set up around the area. Sutherland was hiding in a locked storage area that K-9 Nero had alerted on behind the 101 Bar and Grill. Sutherland was taken into custody without further incident. Deputy Vershall had walked K-9 Striker around the stolen vehicle Sutherland was driving and K-9 Striker alerted on the presence of narcotics. A search of the passenger, Gonzalez produced 5.6 grams of methamphetamine.Both Sutherland and Gonzalez were transported to the Curry County Jail and lodged on the following charges:Robert Sutherland – Contempt of Court for violating a court order restraining order, Attempt to Elude a Police Officer, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Theft in the 1st Degree and Theft in the 3rd Degree.Andre Gonzalez – Attempt to Elude a Police Officer, Unauthorized Use of a motor Vehicle, Theft in the 1st Degree, Theft in the 3rd Degree and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
