After reading your article about the possibility of the Animal Control mobbing from the Agriculture Department to the Sheriff’s Department, I would like to express my opinion that it is a good move. This would give more protection and authority to the Animal Control Officers (ACO’s). The public is not happy about paying for licenses for their dogs. They don’t realize when their dog is wearing a tag, the ACO’s can bring the dog home, if the dog isn’t too far away from home. Also, if the dog bites someone, the tag tell you the dog is up to date with rabies shots and allows the possibility of quarantine at home and the ability to avoid shelter cost. This will also free the Agricultural Department for their other duties. For most of my career as an ACO, I worked under the Agriculture Department. For the last few years I was under the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department.
