Redwood School held more than 50 athletes on the track team for the entire year. We attended five meets and posted many great times and distances. Our last meet was the Del Norte County Meet. At that meet we had 76 personal bests recorded, and several great performances, including four first place finishes by 7th grader Lillie Franklin in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, and the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. Avery Ritter also logged four first place finishes with the same two relays as Lillie, and in both the 100 and 200 meter hurdles races.Our 6 to 7th grade girls won their division of the meet by more than 130 points, which is incredible. In the 8th grade competition, Hollyn Wakefield logged two individual first places in the shot and long jump. #placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');On the boys side we had 7th grader Landed Balent log three first places, winning the 200, 400 meter races, and running a leg in the winning 4x100 meter relay. Sawyer Fry had arguably the best performance, logging an incredible five first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter hurdles, the long jump, the 4x100 meter relay, and the high jump. His jump of 5 ft. 4-in. in the high jump tied the county record recorded in 1998 by Aaron Valley.In 8th grade boys Deken Hanks chased the county records in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, falling just short of the records, but winning by long distances. He also won the long jump and ran a leg in the winning 4x100 meter relay. Jason Murphy also had four first place finishes with wins in the 100 and 200 meter hurdles, the high jump, and running a leg of the 4x100 meter relay. Our 6-7th grade girls won their division of the meet by over 130 points which is incredible. Overall I was very happy with the kids’ efforts and performances. I am excited to see what our 8th graders will accomplish at the high school next year. I am also excited for the bright future for track and field here at Redwood. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
