Four young women will compete for the prestigious title of Dairy Princess during the District 1 Dairy Princess contest on May 13.This year’s contestants are Morgan Mae Stubbs of McKinleyville, Kierlyn Guynup of McKinleyville, Sahalie Rodriguez of Crescent City and Tiara Russ of Fortuna.Morgan is the daughter of Tony and Carrie Stubbs. She is a Junior at McKinleyville High School and plans to pursue a degree in agricultural education at Oklahoma State University. Morgan is the president of her FFA chapter, where she has participated in many community service activities as well as speech competitions. She will be showing a dairy heifer this year. Morgan is a member of the McKinleyville High basketball, softball and volleyball teams, as well as president of the Humboldt Del Norte Student Athletic Advisory Committee. She also shows market hogs. Kierlyn is a principal’s honor roll student.Sahalie is the daughter of Bert and Stacie Rodriguez. She is a Junior at Del Norte High School and plans to study pre veterinary medicine at Montana State University, followed by veterinary medicine at the University of Montana. Sahalie is the treasurer of her FFA Chapter, where she has also completed a variety of supervised agriculture experience projects. Sahalie is also a member of the Del Norte High School cheer and dance teams.Tiara is the daughter of Quincy and Candice Russ. She is a Junior at Ferndale High School and plans to pursue a degree in agricultural business with a farm and ranch management concentration. Tiara is the community service chair and school board representative for her FFA Chapter. She is also reporter for Ferndale High ASB and treasurer for the Ferndale High Class of 2023. Tiara is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation, as well as an honor roll student.The young lady crowned as Dairy Princess will represent the dairy industry in the Humboldt and Del Norte counties. She will serve the area as an ambassador for the dairy industry with various audiences.The newly selected princess and her alternates will participate in a mandatory training, provided by the California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB), where they will receive professional development coaching.California is the nation’s leading milk producer, and produces more butter, ice cream and nonfat dry milk than any other state. California is the second-largest producer of cheese and yogurt.
