Crescent Elk Middle School has done more sky art projects than any school in the country.After beginning in 2007 with a cougar, the school has done an elk, a sperm whale, an orca, a grey owl, a redwood tree, and a mermaid. Just last week, they completed a seal balancing a crescent moon on its nose.All these works are essentially giant living paintings made of the students performing as pixels in the image. Art for the Sky teaches the power of collaboration and learning to awaken one’s “skysight,” which is the ability to see and incorporate a big picture view of the world. Art for the Sky has completed over 400 projects in 44 states and eight countries.
