In your Editorial "Not now, Not ever" you suggest that instead of State funded programs for the homeless, our community should assess the needy and “provide affective assistance one person and family at a time.”How does our relatively poor community pay for that? Shouldn't we be thankful that some of our California taxes are earmarked for our community? Instead of repeating tired refrains about lazy poor people gaming the system, why not investigate some real solutions to the extreme income inequality that is plaguing our country?Back in the '70's my Dad used to lecture me on the free market and trickle down theory. Back then there were union jobs that could support an entire family. Rent was affordable. That was before our manufacturing and mill jobs went to Asia for cheap labor. That was before Amazon, Walmart, and huge monopolies took over almost everything that could make a profit.We have regressed back to the era of robber barons and Depression era tax breaks for the rich, and hard times for the poor. And it's not the government who is fleecing us, it is the Party of NO who is allowing it. They approve huge tax breaks for the 1%, then they vote NO on affordable healthcare, NO childcare tax credits, NO paid family leave, NO affordable college, and NO housing for the homeless. They want Americans to work harder when the system is rigged for the 1%.#placement_573654_0_i{width:100%;max-width:550px;margin:0 auto;}var rnd = window.rnd || Math.floor(Math.random()*10e6);var pid573654 = window.pid573654 || rnd;var plc573654 = window.plc573654 || 0;var abkw = window.abkw || '';var absrc = 'https://ads.empowerlocal.co/adserve/;ID=181918;size=0x0;setID=573654;type=js;sw='+screen.width+';sh='+screen.height+';spr='+window.devicePixelRatio+';kw='+abkw+';pid='+pid573654+';place='+(plc573654++)+';rnd='+rnd+';click=CLICK_MACRO_PLACEHOLDER';var _absrc = absrc.split("type=js"); absrc = _absrc[0] + 'type=js;referrer=' + encodeURIComponent(document.location.href) + _absrc[1];document.write('');It is time for the Party of NO to get their heads out of the Reagan era and start thinking of solutions, instead of repeating tired old refrains about lazy poor people. We know who's gaming the system, and they're not poor. Here's an old refrain: If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.Jonnel CovaultCrescent City googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('ad-1515727'); });
